Current status
- Core grammar and lexicon established and fully open-sourced.
- Community growth is organic, welcoming, and tool-driven.
- Early public release phase.
Design goals (and non-goals)
Sorantoki aims to:
- Minimize cognitive load for learners.
- Reduce barriers caused by accent, speech variation, or working-memory demands.
- Encourage calm, cooperative communication.
- Grow vocabulary only when communicative need is demonstrated.
- Remain inspectable, open, and free.
Sorantoki does not aim to:
- Maximize expressive density.
- Replace natural languages.
- Compete ideologically with existing auxlangs.
- Enforce a single “correct” accent or register.
Inclusivity by design
Sorantoki does not claim universal accessibility. Instead, it deliberately reduces known sources of linguistic friction that disproportionately affect some speakers: phonological precision requirements, memorization of inflectional paradigms, irregular stress and pronunciation rules, and social stigma around “incorrect” speech. These choices are documented openly so they can be evaluated, challenged, and improved by the community.
How to get involved
Sorantoki treats language as a shared public utility. Because there is no central language academy, the project relies on an “open source” model of language evolution: the grammar and core lexicon in the repository are the stable, logical, exception-free canonical core; the community is encouraged to fork the project, build tools, and grow specialized dialects, and organically-adopted improvements can be merged into the official lexicon over time. Usage drives the dictionary, not a board.
At this stage, the most valuable contributions are:
- Learning and speaking — use the language, make mistakes, and use wasa!
- Building tools — apps, flashcards, keyboards, and learning materials (the language itself is CC0).
- Creating media — short example texts, stories, or videos in Sorantoki.
- Feedback — log points of communicative friction or suggest improvements via GitHub Discussions.
- Forking — create specialized dialects or extensions for your own community or use case.
